Nestlé Hungária will invest Є141 million (US $152 million) at its pet food plant in Bük, boosting capacity and creating 130 jobs.

According to reports, Nestlé will set up a new production unit and install two automated production lines at the facility. The plant will have the capacity to make 500,000 tonnes of pet food a year from 2025, up from 200,000 tonnes in 2019, some 85% of which will be exported.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said the state will provide the necessary infrastructure developments for the investment, the minister added.

The project is part of the company’s five-year, Є772 million (US $831 million) investment plan started in 2020, Nestlé Hungary managing director Péter Noszek said.

According to Petfood Industry’s Top Pet Food Companies, Nestlé Purina PetCare remains a top player in the global pet care industry. The company reported strong organic growth in its pet care products in 2022. Long a leader in the US market, Nestlé Purina also operates pet food factories in 19 countries. Nestlé Purina claims three headquarters globally: St. Louis, Missouri, US, for its North American and Latin American operations; Lausanne, Switzerland, in Europe; and Sydney, Australia, covering Asia, Oceania and Africa. Its parent company, Nestlé’s world headquarters, is in Vevey, Switzerland.
