AND POLICE SAY CARD, WHO WAS TRAINED AT A US ARMY RESERVE FACILITY, WAS COMMITTED FOR TWO WEEKS AT A MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY THIS SUMMER. THEY SAY HE HAD THREATENED TO CARRY OUT A SHOOTING AT A MAINE MILITARY TRAINING BASE AND WXII 12 NEWS WILL BRING YOU BREAKING UPDATES. ALL DAY ON THIS MASS SHOOTING. YOU’LL FIND THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS ON AIR AND ON OUR WEBSITE ON OUR FREE WPXI 12 NEWS MOBILE APP AS WELL. HAPPENING NOW, HIGHWAY 421 IN GUILFORD COUNTY IS BACK OPEN FOLLOWING A CRASH THAT CLOSED DOWN THE ROAD FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE WRECK HAPPENED JUST BEFORE 4 A.M. IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES NEAR WOODY MILL ROAD. THAT IS JUST SOUTH OF GREENSBORO. OUR PHOTOJOURNALIST AT THE SCENE SAYS AT LEAST THREE VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED, INCLUDING A TRACTOR TRAILER. NO WORD YET ON WHETHER OR NOT ANYONE WAS INJURED. AND THIS AFTERNOON, SIX PEOPLE IN WINSTON-SALEM ARE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO STAY AFTER A FIRE DAMAGED THEIR HOME. THIS IS VIDEO FIREFIGHTERS TOOK FROM THE SCENE. CREWS RESPONDED TO THE HOME LAST NIGHT ON SALEM LAKE ROAD. FIREFIGHTERS QUICKLY PUT OUT THOSE FLAMES, BUT THE HOME WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED. SO FAR, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS NOT SAID WHAT CAUSED THAT FIRE, BUT INVESTIGATORS ARE LOOKING INTO IT. A LIVE LOOK TODAY OVER WINSTON SALEM, WHERE WE SEE THOSE BEAUTIFUL BLUE SKIES AND THE SUN SHINING ONCE AGAIN. WE HAVE HAD SOME GREAT WEATHER THIS WEEK, MICHELLE KENNEDY JOINING US NOW AND HOPEFULLY, MICHELLE, IT STAYS THIS WAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. OH, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SOARING TEMPERATURES ACTUALLY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. SO IT GETS EVEN BETTER, WHICH IS SOMETHING WE DON’T USUALLY SAY AT THE END OF OCTOBER. RIGHT. SO WE’VE GOT A REALLY NICE STRETCH HERE. WE’VE GOT 49 DEGREES FOR YOUR MORNING LOWS. THIS IS AN IMPROVEMENT, HUGE IMPROVEMENT. ALSO IN HILLSVILLE, YOU WERE AT 50 DEGREES AND YOU’VE GOT 47 DEGREES IN LEXINGTON. SO DEFINITELY LOOKING AT THAT CHILLY START, BUT NOT AS COLD. AND CERTAINLY THE FROST WAS LESS OF AN ISSUE. WE DID DROP DOWN TO 39IN MARTINSVILLE. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW WITH MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. GORGEOUS. YES, WE’VE GOT HIGHS AT 72 SO FAR TODAY AND EXPECTED TO SEE THOSE HIGHS TOP OUT IN THE UPPER 70S BY THE AFTERNOON. SO WINDS AT ABOUT FOUR MILES AN HOUR, GENERALLY COMING OUT OF THE SOUTH. AND YOU’VE GOT 73 RIGHT NOW, GREENSBORO, 66 IN WINSTON-SALEM. BUT COMING UP NICELY IN OTHER SPOTS OF 73, IN WALNUT COVE. AND YOU CAN SEE THOSE CLOUDS STARTING TO GET A LITTLE BIT CLOSER AROUND THE WESTERN EDGE OF OUR RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE. SO IT IS GOING TO TAP INTO A LITTLE BIT OF THAT GULF MOISTURE, BUT MOST FOLKS ARE GOING TO STAY DRY. WE’VE GOT THAT RIDGE, THAT NICE BUBBLE BRINGING US SOME BEAUTIFUL CONDITIONS, UPPER 70S FOR YOU RIGHT NOW. EXPECT TO THIS AFTERNOON WE MIGHT HAVE A FEW FAIR WEATHER CLOUDS, OTHERWISE WE’RE BACK DOWN INTO THE UPPER 50S EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. AND IN THE FOOTHILLS, 77 DEGREES FOR AFTERNOON HIGHS FROM MOUNT AIRY. ELKIN YADKINVILLE. IT’S JUST BEAUTIFUL OUT THERE. WE DIP DOWN FROM THE 70S ALSO IN THE MOUNTAINS INTO THE 60S BY 6:00 AND THEN YOU’RE BACK INTO THE LOW TO MID 50S. TOMORROW MORNING WE’RE GOING TO HAVE MUCH MORE FOR YOU ON THIS AND TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AS WE HEAT UP FOR THE WEEKEND. IT’S LOOKING BEAUTIFUL. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MICHELLE. THE ISRAELI MILITARY LEE IS ISRAEL, RATHER. THE STEP IS PART OF WHAT IS CALLED PREPARATIONS FOR THE NEXT STAGES OF COMBAT. JAY GRAY JOINING US FROM TEL AVIV WITH THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS. GOOD MORNING. AND WE’RE LEARNING THAT OVERNIGHT THE IDF CARRIED OUT WHAT THEY CALL A TARGETED RAID. TROOPS AND TANKS MOVING ACROSS THE BORDER WITH GAZA. AND WHAT TO THIS POINT IS THE BIGGEST PRESENCE THAT WE’VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT ON THE GROUND, TAKING OUT OPERATIONAL STRUCTURES, ANTI-TANK POSITIONS, THE MISSION, ACCORDING TO IDF COMMANDERS, WAS TO PREPARE THE BATTLEFIELD FOR THE NEXT STAGE. SO IT DOES APPEAR THAT THEY ARE PREPARING FOR A FULL SCALE GROUND ADVANCE AT SOME POINT IN THIS SITUATION. NOW, LET’S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HUMANITARIAN AID SITUATION. 12 MORE TRUCKS WENT IN TODAY, 74 TOTAL SINCE THIS WAR BEGAN. THEY CONTINUE TO BRING IN FOOD, WATER, MEDICINE, MEDICAL SUPPLIES. BUT NO FUEL. AND THE FUEL SITUATION RIGHT NOW IS DIRE. THE UN IN A REAL DILEMMA, THEY SAY, DO THEY DESTROY OUT WHAT LITTLE FUEL THEY HAVE LEFT OR USE IT ALL IN ONE FACILITY? TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT THEY ARE DEALING WITH. 600,000 DISPLACED JUST INSIDE GAZA OR IN 150 UN SHELTERS. AND SO THAT’S SOMETHING THEY’RE STRUGGLING TO TRY AND MAKE A DECISION ABOUT THE HOSPITALS THAT ARE STILL OPERATING WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO DO SO. A FEW OF THE BAKERIES THAT ARE STILL OPERATING WON’T BE ABLE TO PROVIDE HYDE BREAD, WHICH IS THE ONLY FOOD THAT MANY INSIDE GAZA ARE SEEING RIGHT NOW. IT IS A DIRE SITUATION AND ACCORDING TO THOSE INSIDE, GETTING WORSE BY THE HOUR. THAT’S THE LATEST FROM HERE IN TEL AVIV. I’M JAY GRAY, NBC NEWS. AND TROOPS FROM FORT LIBERTY ARE BEING SENT TO THE MIDDLE EAST AMID THE WAR BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS. THE PENTAGON SAID TODAY IT IS DEPLOYING ARMY AIR DEFENSE UNITS FROM THE BASE TO THE REGION, ALONG WITH UNITS FROM FORT BLISS IN TEXAS AND FORT SILL IN OKLAHOMA. SENATOR TED BUDD SAYS NORTH CAROLINIANS ARE AMONG THE MORE THAN 200 AMERICANS BEING HELD HOSTAGE, HOSTAGE IN GAZA BY HAMAS. BUDD SAYS HE MET WITH SOME OF THE FAMILIES IN WASHINGTON, WHERE HE WAS PROVIDED WITH STORIES AND PHOTOS. THE SENATOR SPOKE ON THE SENATE FLOOR YESTERDAY DEMANDING THE RELEASE OF ALL HOSTAGES BEFORE ANY US AID IS SENT TO THE GAZA STRIP. US AND OTHER FOREIGN HUMANITARIAN HUMANITARIAN AID SHOULD NO LONGER BE USED AS A CRUTCH FOR HAMAS TO HOLD ON TO POWER. THE UNITED STATES SHOULDN’T BE GIVING ANY MONEY TO GAZA UNTIL HAMAS IS NO LONGER THE DE FACTO GOVERNMENT. US MILITARY ADVISERS ARE URGING ISRAEL TO AVOID A GROUND ASSAULT, TO WORK TO GET MORE HOSTAGES AGES FREED. AND COMMITMENT. 2024. ANOTHER REPUBLICAN IS THROWING HIS NAME INTO THE RING FOR CONGRESS. CASTELLI ANNOUNCED HE’S RUNNING IN THE NEWLY REDRAWN SIXTH DISTRICT. HE’S A FORMER GREEN BERET, AND HE RAN UNSUCCESSFULLY FOR THE SEAT LAST YEAR IN HIS FIRST RUN FOR POLITICAL OFFICE, LOSING TO DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSWOMAN KATHY MANNING. CASTELLI SAYS HE DECIDED TO RUN AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE RECENT HOUSE SPEAKER GRIDLOCK AND TO BRING REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE TO WASHINGTON. CASTELLI IS THE THIRD REPUBLICAN TO ENTER THE RACE FOR THE SIXTH DISTRICT THAT SETS UP A PRIMARY WITH FORMER CONGRESSMAN MARK WALKER AND CURRENT HIGH POINT MAYOR JAY WAGNER.
